My Sister Liv is a feature documentary following the inseparable sisters Tess and Liv. Liv is a young girl growing up with the relentless pressures of social media, depression, body dysmorphia, and, often, suicidal thoughts. The film takes us into the intimate journey of Liv’s raw emotions and fears of a young life on the edge, and ultimately Tess’s desperate struggle to save her. My Sister Liv reveals the realities of stigma around mental health and the aftermath for those left behind after a suicide. As a family learns to cope, they find hope in fearlessly talking about mental health and fighting to save young lives.
Biography:
Alan Hicks is a Grammy Award-winning filmmaker. After working as a musician in and around New York, Hicks transitioned to filmmaking, directing his first feature documentary Keep On Keepin’ On and winning the Audience Award and Best New Director honors at the Tribeca Film Festival. Alan also directed the documentary, Quincy, following music legend and icon Quincy Jones over four years. Quincy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received the Critic's Choice Honor for Best Music Documentary, the African American Film Critics Award for Best Documentary, and the Grammy for Best Music Film.
Paula DuPré Pesmen left a successful film career to found There With Care, a service for families facing critical illness. During her time as an associate producer on the first three Harry Potter films, she started a program with film director Chris Columbus that welcomed over 60 critically ill children and their families to the Harry Potter set for their wish-for-a-day. As founder of There With Care and a member of its board of directors, Paula oversees the daily operations of the organization. The overwhelming support Paula has received from her personal and professional communities is a testament to her passion for helping families in need.
Olivia Ahnemann has been producing and directing documentary films for over twenty years. Previously, she produced The Human Element featuring James Balogl, Under the Gun with director Stephanie Soechtig, and Racing Extinction with director Louie Psihoyos. Olivia was co-producer of The Cove, which has garnered over 70 awards globally, including the 2009 Academy Award for Best Documentary and the Producers Guild of America Documentary Award. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking.
