Director/Producer: Pamela Martinez

Description:

The act of writing collapses the past and the present into the dissonant experience of witnessing the colonization of the body.

Biography:

Pamela Martinez is a Venezuelan filmmaker and MFA graduate in the Documentary Media Program at Stanford. She graduated from UWC Red Cross Nordic in Norway where she studied visual arts as part of her IB curriculum, alongside economics and physics. After spending eight months in Brazil in an experiential educational program Global Citizen Year she moved to the UAE to study Film and New Media and Social Research and Public Policy at NYU Abu Dhabi. In her first year, she was awarded the Rising Leadership Award. During her undergraduate, she has been interested in issues of gender, systems of care, migration, and transitional justice. She was awarded NYUAD’s Summer Film Grant with which she developed her documentary Estado Fallido/Failed State which explores the political and social polarization inside the community of Canaima, Venezuela, where the indigenous community Pemón Kamarakoto attempts to live from tourism despite the deep-rooted socio-economic crisis of Venezuela. Her latest work is Illegal Alien, a research-based art exhibition.
