War/Dance tells the story of Uganda's brutal civil war through the eyes of three children. For their entire lives Dominic, Nancy and Rose have lived in the most dangerous part of the war zone. War/Dance follows their historic journey as they compete for the first time in the finals of Uganda's National Music and Dance Competition. Devastated by the horrors of war, they carry the hopes and dreams of their entire village with them as they struggle to be crowned national champion.
Biography:
Fine Films is an award-winning film production company based in the Washington, DC area. The company was created by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine in 2003, the same year they were married. For the last decade, Sean and Andrea have worked in over thirty countries, from dangerous war zones to the Arctic Circle, to bring unknown human stories to the screen.
Susan MacLaury, Executive Director of Shine Global, Inc., is dually degreed in social work administration and health education. She is currently also an associate professor of health education at Kean University in Union, NJ. Her previous sixteen years of nonprofit experience focused on the delivery of educational and prevention programs for adolescents. Dr. MacLaury is also the author of a book on student advisories as well as the author of several articles and co-editor of a health education reader.
Albie Hecht, President, Shine Global, Inc. Board of Directors, is a film and TV producer with more than twenty years experience. Before creating and serving as president of MTV Network's Spike TV, the first network for men, Albie headed film and TV production at Nickelodeon, where he was nominated for both Golden Globe and Academy Awards as producer of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. He also produced The Rugrats Movie, Rugrats in Paris, Snow Day, and True Dads With Bruce Willis. Throughout his career, Albie has also created a number of social action initiatives, including "The Big Help" for Nickelodeon, and Spike TV's "Check Up or Check Out."
