I, Undocumented
(61 min) Venezuela
[buy tickets]

Saturday 10/26, 9:50 PM (Session 30)

Director: Andrea Baranenko
Producer: Daniel Ruiz Hueck

Description:

Tamara, Desiree and Victoria are Venezuelan women with apparently not much in common: Tamara is a lawyer, Desiree's a hairdresser and Victoria has studied art. However, they share more than their nationality; they carry IDs with names that don't identify them. They are transgender women, who long ago assumed their gender and now defend it in a still homo-transphobic society. This film chronicles the story of how the three women join to fight for legal name change in Venezuela, through a series of legal actions that will test the system's willingness to protect its citizens' most basic right: the right to an identity.

Biography:

Andrea Baranenko is a social communicator specializing in audiovisual arts. She directed the short documentary Someone's Listening and has worked as a writer and production manager in a variety of independent projects. I, Undocumented represents her first feature-length documentary. At the moment she's working as a co-writer of a Venezuelan feature-length film that will premiere in 2014.
