Official Best Film Winner of the USC Shoah Foundation's Student Voices Film Competition, Where is My Home? is a short animated documentary that tells the story of Vera Gissing and her experience fleeing Czechoslovakia as a young girl during the onset of the Holocaust. Vera's story is woven through abstract imagery created through sand animation, a technique that uses an under-lit tray full of sand, and footage from the Shoah Foundation Archive.
Biography:
Cecilia De Jesus is a Mexican/Filipina-American filmmaker and animator, earning her MFA in animation at the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. She received her BFA in Communication Design at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. It was at Texas State where she fostered her interest in design and developed her style of simple, yet elegant compositions. Cecilia uses her animations to combine all her passions. She enjoys creating films that highlight personal stories and reach people on an emotional level.
