Description:
Nowhere to Run is an animation series from ORAM. These films chronicle the challenges the (LGBTI) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex refugee communities face around the world. In Naheed's case, her father kicks her out of the house after eavesdropping on a conversation between Naheed and her girlfriend. She and her lover try to flee to Turkey, but the girlfriend is intercepted. Naheed makes it out of the country, but faces an uphill struggle. Nowhere to Run was produced by Two Wings, a team of animators, designers and musicians who advocate for LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers.
Biography:
Matthew Heckart, the director of Nowhere to Run, is also the founder of Two Wings, an organization that uses the arts to campaign for LGBT refugees' rights. In 2010, the School of Visual Arts in New York awarded Heckart the Design Ignites Change Implementation Award. In addition to Two Wings, Heckart has published in The Daily Heller, Designophy, Fast Company, and for the Japanese TV show When Painting Moves. Heckart currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where he works for Gotham Inc as a designer.
