Due to the full-scale Russian invasion in Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainians, fleeing the war, found refuge in a small town in western Ukraine. A local director decides to involve non-professional actors – displaced people – in bringing his dream into life to stage the King Lear play.
Biography:
Dmytro Hreshko has been studying and filming documentaries since 2018 and created his first documentary 66 Scenes of Uzhhorod. In 2019, he created a documentary about mountain rescuers and rescued tourists, Snow Leopards of the Carpathians. He also created a documentary short film about ambulance workers, Save me, doctor! The short was recognized as the best Ukrainian film at the Wiz Art FF and received a special jury award at the Molodist Film Festival. He now lives in Kyiv, Ukraine and finished a documentary film about an ambulance crew in a small mountain village during the Covid pandemic, Mountains and heaven in between, which was selected for Docudays for national premiere and Sheffield DocFest for international premiere.
Polina Herman is a LA-based Ukrainian producer and the founder of UP UA Studio, which she established in 2016. She graduated from Kyiv National Theater, Cinema, and Television University, I. Karpenko-Kary with a degree in the Organization of Cinema and Television Production. She also became a student of the UCLA School of Theater Film & Television, participating in the Summer 2023 UCLA Professional Program in Producing.
