Good Food

GOOD FOOD

(72 minutes) USA
Directors: Melissa Young, Mark Dworkin
Producer: Bill Aal

Description:
Something remarkable is happening in the fields and orchards of the Pacific Northwest. After leaving the land for decades, family farmers are making a comeback. They are growing much healthier food, and lots more food per acre, while using less energy and water than factory farms. And most of this food is organic. For decades, Northwest agriculture was focused on a few big crops for export. But climate change and the end of cheap energy mean that each region needs to produce more of its own food and to grow it more sustainably. Good Food visits farmers, farmers' markets, distributors, stores, restaurants and public officials who are developing a more sustainable food system for all while arguing that one of the best things we can do for the planet is to buy our food from regional small farms.

Biography:
For twenty years, Moving Images Video Project has produced and distributed documentaries about war and peace, the environment, and social justice. Founded by Melissa Young and Mark Dworkin to increase understanding in the United States of political and social issues in Central America, Moving Images later expanded to address the AIDS epidemic, labor rights and childcare, international relations in the post Cold-War era, and the implications of new genetic technologies. Many of these programs have aired across North America on PBS, and they are widely distributed to schools, libraries and community organizations. Moving Images productions have been honored with numerous awards, including three CINE Golden Eagles, the Golden and Silver Apple Awards from the National Educational Media Network, two Bronze Awards from the Columbus Film Festival and the Silver Award at the Chicago International Film Festival.
