THIS TIME WE CAN'T SAY WE DIDN'T KNOW
(3 minutes) Croatia/Sudan
Director/Producer: Slaven Zimbrek
Description:
Winner of the Croatian national FIPRESCI award "Oktavijan," This Time We Can't Say We Didn't Know combines the archived footage and still images of the Holocaust, Rwanda and Darfur genocides (courtesy of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the UNHCR) with testimonies of the Holocaust survivors (courtesy of the Shoah Visual History Foundation) to establish a parallel between the ongoing crisis in Darfur and the Holocaust. However, as the film's title points out, ignorance cannot be used as an excuse for not helping out because "this time we can't say (that) we didn't know." The film was jointly produced by the Jewish Community of Zagreb and Zimbra Film to increase public awareness in Croatia about the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
