[watch trailer] |
Director: Kate Nace Day
Producers: Kate Nace Day, Shannon Carroll
Description:
Within the US, tens of thousands of girls and women are trafficked for sex, every year. In the shadow of law, traffickers, pimps and "johns" commit brutal crimes while the victims are often treated like criminals. The film tells the story of one American girl who survived. Commentary by Gloria Steinem and others explores a civil remedy – a private civil action for money damages – to empower victims and hold the full line-up of perpetrators accountable.
Biography:
Kate Nace Day is a Professor of Law at Suffolk University Law School where she teaches the civil, constitutional and international human rights of women, including victims of sex trafficking. For the past decade, she has used documentary film in her teaching to challenge law's traditional pedagogy and inspire law students to activism. Together with a former student, she developed the 2010 BITAHR Human Rights Film Forum dedicated to documentary films about sex trafficking. In 2013, she was named one of Massachusetts' Top Women in Law. A Civil Remedy is her first film.
