[watch trailer]

Thursday 10/16, 7:10 PM (Session 1)

Directors: Matthew Modine, Terence Ziegler
Producer: Adam Rackoff

Description:

Did Jesus speak against economic inequalities, or was he a capitalist who taught about rewards based on ability and achievement? This avant-garde story follows “John Doe” as he examines history and science and whether Jesus might have been a utopian communist.

Biography:

Matthew Modine has been called "one of the best, most adaptable film actors of his generation" by legendary NY Times film critic Vincent Canby. Modine has worked with many of the film industry’s most acclaimed directors including Oliver Stone, Sir Alan Parker, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Altman, Alan J. Pakula, John Schlesinger, Tony Richardson, Robert Falls, Sir Peter Hall, Abel Ferrara, Spike Lee, Tom DiCillo, Mike Figgis, Jonathan Demme, and John Sayles. Throughout his career he has been nominated for three Golden Globes and is the recipient of one for Robert Altman’s film Short Cuts. Modine is well remembered for the title character in Alan Parker’s film Birdy, which won the Cannes Film Festivals Gran Prix Award and for his role as Private Joker, the central character of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. His work in Alan Rudolph’s Equinox helped earn the film four Independent Spirit Award nominations including Best Film and Best Actor. He is the recipient of a Venice Film Festival Volpi Cup and a Golden Lion Award. In 2012, Modine starred in Christopher Nolan's Batman epic The Dark Knight Rises, the Edward Zwick-produced Family Weekend and Girl in Progress opposite Eva Mendes. Matthew is also noted for playing the role of “Sculley” in the Steve Jobs biopic JOBS.
