It All Started With Mom (24 min) US |
Director/Producer: Catherine O’Brien
Description:
Through interviews and animation, this film explores one family's dating experience over three generations and a seventy-year age span. The film’s resulting narrative is a humorous examination of three generations and seven decades of dating rituals. A delightful view of some of O’Brien’s less-than-ideal courting efforts are illustrated by her now-husband, Anthony Montanino. The story has a happy ending, but it requires you stick around for final credits to learn the fate of the filmmaker and her family.
Biography:
For nearly four decades Catherine O’Brien has been producing documentaries profiling notable and prominent figures. She began her career as on-camera talent at KVIE, Sacramento, California’s public television station. After a stint at co-producing the annual Jazz Jubilee for PBS, she fell in love with the other side of the camera and never looked back. A brief career in politics gave O’Brien a keen eye for discovering valuable storylines. She led the University of New Hampshire’s Commission on the Status of Women, where she authored the first university sexual harassment policy in the country. As an elected State Representative, she championed the New Hampshire first campaign to declare Martin Luther King Day. For the past twenty years, O’Brien has been a producer at Stanford University. Her award-winning program, ‘Stockdale Triumphs; A Return to Vietnam,’ followed Adm. James Stockdale - America’s highest-ranking, longest-held POW in the Vietnam War - as he returned to Vietnam for the first time. Her latest film is more personal. It All Started With Mom is a documentary that explores her own family’s perspective of meeting and courting suitable partners.
