Description:
True Son follows twenty-two-year-old Stanford graduate Michael Tubbs’ campaign for a seat on Stockton, California’s city council during a year of record homicides and impending bankruptcy. For Michael Tubbs, a Stockton native born to a teenage mother and incarcerated father, engaging with youth is crucial to solving Stockton’s problems. In a remarkable election campaign, Michael returned home and rallied hundreds of young Stockton residents between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one to join his movement to Reinvent Stockton.
Biography:
Kevin Gordon is a documentary filmmaker based in San Francisco. He has directed numerous award-winning shorts including Dreams Awake, recipient of a 2010 Student Academy Award. He has worked on productions for Discovery, PBS, Facebook and the New York Times. Kevin received his MFA in documentary film from Stanford University and a BA in history from Yale University. True Son is his feature-length directorial debut.
