Description:
Filmed from inside two of the most active therapeutic
feeding centers in Yemen, the Academy Nominated HUNGER
WARD documents two female health care workers
fighting to thwart the spread of starvation against the backdrop of a
forgotten war. The film provides an unflinching portrait of Dr. Aida
Alsadeeq and Nurse Mekkia Mahdi as they try to save the lives of
hunger-stricken children within a population on the brink of famine.
Biography:
Skye
Fitzgerald is an honorary member of SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society)
Fitzgerald has worked in partnership with the Sundance Institute, the
U.S. Institute of Peace, the State Department, the Paul Robeson Fund
and Mountainfilm. As a Director of Photography, Fitzgerald works for
major broadcasters throughout the world including Dateline, VICE,
Mercy Corps, CNN, the Discovery, Travel, History and Animal Planet
Channels. He is currently directing a trilogy of films on the global
refugee crisis. The first, 50
Feet From Syria,
focused on doctors working on the Syrian border and was voted onto
the shortlist for an Oscar. The second, Lifeboat documents
Search and Rescue operations off the coast of Libya and was nominated
for an Academy Award® and a National Emmy. Fitzgerald is proud to be
a newly inducted member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts &
Sciences.
Michael
Scheuerman’s
initial work in the film industry was on the set of Havana,
Sydney Pollack’s narrative on the Cuban revolution filmed in the
Dominican Republic. Subsequently, he spent 25 years in the tech
industry managing nearly 200 projects, most recently at Facebook.
With the recent convergence of the technology and film industries,
combined with his passion for the art of film as a catalyst for
social change. He assisted with the promotion of Fitzgerald’s last
film, Lifeboat and he was the producer for Hunger
Ward.
