Description:
It is a story about a civil rights
tour through the American South as they reckon with our painful
history of racial injustice. The first, a group of predominantly
Black middle school students from Chicago, and the second, a group of
older Americans who lived through the 1960's Civil Rights era. They
come face to face with the leaders and everyday heroes whose courage
and perseverance paved the way for future generations.
Biography:
Brendan Hall Brendan Hall is
a filmmaker and photographer capturing stories in the natural world
and beyond. His deep curiosity for new experiences has led him to
pursue projects centered around nature, science, social justice, and
healthcare. His feature documentary credits include cinematography
and aerials on Netflix, PBS, and SXSW picks such as Bill
Nye: Science Guy, We Are As Gods, and Red
Heaven. Through his documentary and
commercial work, Brendan has engaged with thought leaders including
Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye, Renan Ozturk, Katie Couric, George
Church, and Stewart Brand. His last short doc, Maggie Rogers: Back In My Body received over
750K online views, a Vimeo Staff Pick, and screened at Video
Consortium. His feature-length directorial debut, Westward,
follows a journey through 20 national parks to meet the incredible
people within them.
Kaliya
Warren is an award-winning writer and director. She was a top-five finalist
for Tribeca and AT&T’s Untold Stories competition, and her
pitch for her feature Expatriates received the $50,000 Fan Favorite Award. Her short The
Grown-Ups was
a finalist at NYU’s First Run Film Festival, and received awards
for Best Screenplay and Best Ensemble Cast. The film was nominated
for a National Board of Review award, and was an official selection
of HBO’s Urbanworld Film Festival. Her dance film Revelation was
selected to show in IFC’s Short Attention Span Cinema Series. Most
recently, she directed the new season of supermodel Ashely Graham’s
show, Pretty
Big Deal.
She shot on location throughout South Africa, Mozambique, and
Ethiopia. In Tanzania, she directed a documentary on maternal and
reproductive health for Bloomberg Philanthropies. She is a member of
IATSE Local 600, International Cinematographers Guild.
